Lupita Nyong'o Will Star And Produce "Americanah" An Adaptation Of Nigerian Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Novel..

BET and Oscar award winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o, will star and produce "Americanah" a film from the adaptation of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel..

Americanah tells the story Of two Nigerians, Ifemelu and Obinze, who fall in love but separates when Ifemelu emigrates to America for university and Obinz in London, UK.

Lupita said in a statement that it was an "honour to bring Adichie's brilliant book to the screen".

"Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze's stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humour and heart," she said.

As teenagers in a Lagos secondary school, Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love. Their Nigeria is under military dictatorship, and people are leaving the country if they can. Ifemelu—beautiful, self-assured—departs for America to study. She suffers defeats and triumphs, finds and loses relationships and friendships, all the while feeling the weight of something she never thought of back home: race. Obinze—the quiet, thoughtful son of a professor—had hoped to join her, but post-9/11 America will not let him in, and he plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London.
Years later, Obinze is a wealthy man in a newly democratic Nigeria, while Ifemelu has achieved success as a writer of an eye-opening blog about race in America. But when Ifemelu returns to Nigeria, and she and Obinze reignite their shared passion—for their homeland and for each other—they will face the toughest decisions of their lives.

The book was selected as one of the 10 Best Books of 2013 by the editors of the New York Times Book Review. It won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award(Fiction), and was shortlisted for the 2014 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction.

The adaptation will be produced by Brad Pitt's company Plan B -- the same company who produced " 12 Years a Slave".
