Moroccan Gnawa musician El Maâlem Mahmoud Guinea

Moroccan Gnawa musician, El Maâlem Mahmoud Guinea, a gnaoui artist died this Sunday following a long illness, his family reveals.

Born in Essaouira in 1951, Guinea started playing  gnaoui at the age of 12.

He managed to entangle his art to that of major musicians including Carlos Santana, Adam Rudolph, Will Calhoun, Issaka Sow and many others during the various Festival.

Mahmoud also performed in Norway, Belgium, Netherland Spain, France, Italy. Japan and Canada.
