VARIETY is reporting that Constantin Film is working on a Resident Evil reboot movie. The production company has yet to reveal any details about the reboot.

Constantin Film launched the film based on the Japanese video game franchise of the same name by Capcom back in 2002, after acquiring the rights to the first film in January 1997 with Alan B. McElroy and George A. Romero as potential writers.

Resident Evil has since earned a combined $1.2 billion worldwide, making Resident Evil the highest-grossing series based on a video game. Paul W. S. Anderson has wrote all six of the installments and directed four.

The lastest entry of franchise “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” which was filmed in South Africa, grossed $312 million worldwide after its January release.

Resident Evil (known in Japan as Bio Hazard) was developed and released by Capcom originally for the PlayStation in 1996. The video game is Capcom's best-selling debut game, with sales of over 8.5 million copies worldwide.
