Warner Bros. Allegedly Considering A Live-action Film Where Superman Is Part Of The Soviet Union.

Warner Bros. wants to make a live-action adaptation of Soviet Union Superman

Warner Bros. allegedly looking into making a live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Superman: Red Son, an alternative world where Superman was found and raised in the Soviet Union.

Mark Millar (Superman: Red Son) and Jordan Vogt-Roberts ( Kong: Skull Island) revealed in a conversation that Warner Bros. was pictching Red Son to directors. Vogt-Roberts said he pitched a Red Son movie to Warner Bros “months ago,” but it was unsuccessfully. The director said Red Son is “the most punk rock thing the DCEU could do in my mind."

"Is this something they're genuinely planning? I have no idea," Millar told Den of Geek. "I've got pals at Warner Bros but never discussed it with them. I think they're just going through their back catalog of big books and hoping to lure in good directors as opposed to any particular interest in developing Red Son. There's always 50 conversations for every comic book movie that gets made and as far as I know this is something that is very much just at conversation stage."

Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Kilian Plunkett created Superman: Red Son with the premise "what if Superman had been raised in the Soviet Union?". The three-issue comic book mini-series was published by DC Comics that was released under their Elseworlds imprint in 2003.

In Red Son, Superman's rocket ship lands on a Ukrainian collective farm rather than in Kansas, due to the small time difference from the original timeline. Instead of fighting for "... truth, justice, and the American Way", Superman is described in Soviet radio broadcasts "... as the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact." His "secret identity" (i.e. the name his adoptive parents gave him) is a state secret.
