Game OF Thrones Final Season Will Be Pic, Spinoff To Air A Year After The Season Finale.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys says Game of Thrones spinoff series will air at least a year after the actual television series finale because the network don't want to take attention away from the final season Game of Thrones, which he says will be "epic."

“The No. 1 priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones. I don’t want to do anything with a spin-off or anything that detracts or distracts from that. That season will happen and my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don’t want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after that. It’s best to separate it and that’s what we’ll do.”

We reported in early May that HBO closed deals with Max Borenstein (“Kong: Skull Island”), Jane Goldman (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), Brian Helgeland (“Legend”), and Carly Wray (“Mad Men,” “The Leftovers”) to work on four possible spinoffs of popular TV series in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. However, none of the current characters TV series will feature on the spinoff series.

Game of Thrones was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. The TV series is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The eighth and final season, is expected to air early 2019 and is rumored to have between six and eight episodes.
