Warner Bros. And DC To Adapt The Iconic Death Of Superman Into A Two Part Animated film.

Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced that it will be adapting to Superman comic classics as a two feature-length animated films.

Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, Death of Superman will be released in 2018 followed by The Reign of the Supermen slated for early 2019.

"Adapting the legendary story of Superman’s fatal battle with Doomsday, this will actually be the second DC Universe Original Movie to adapt the material," says DC. "The first, 2007’s Superman: Doomsday, was the very first DC Universe Original Movie and greatly condensed and altered the original comic book event to fit within its 75-minute running time. The upcoming adaptation will be more faithful to the source material, much less condensed and will include many of the fan-favorite moments from the story that were left out of Doomsday."

On thehe Reign of the Supermen:

"While we’ll have to wait for an official synopsis to learn all of the details, that name should be a familiar one to Superman fans and suggests we’ll be seeing the rise of the Superman alternates that took his place during the year after his death. (For those unfamiliar with the story, they were Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Last Son of Krypton.) This part of the Death and Return of Superman was greatly simplified in Doomsday, which instead featured a single alternate Superman rather than the four we saw in the comics."

"The Death of Superman" is a 1992 comic book by DC Comics. The complete story arc was later given the title The Death and Return of Superman. In the issue Superman dies in battle after he try to Doomsday killing spree across the United States. Superman and Doomsday die in the streets of Metropolis from their in Superman (vol. 2) #75 in 1993.

The Reign of the Superman was written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster. A followup to The Death of Superman and World Without a Superman. The story center around the events that took place during the "Death of Superman" storyline, as well as the follow-up story-arc "Funeral for a Friend". After Superman died in a battle with Doomsday, four other supermen appears claiming to be the resurrected Man of Steel. The Supermen were: Last Son of Krypton (Action Comics), a cold, emotionless Kryptonian persona; Superboy (Adventures of Superman), a teenage clone of Superman; Steel (Superman: The Man of Steel), an engineer who built a high-powered suit of armor to carry on Superman's legacy; and finally Cyborg Superman (Superman), who most resembled the real Man of Steel but who was a cybernetic organism.
