Shazam! : Zachary Levi Casted As Lead Character.

According to reports, Zachary Levi ( Chuck, Heroes: Reborn, Thor : Ragnarok) will play the lead character in DC Entertainment’s live-action film adaptation of “Shazam!”.

Shazam! will be directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) with a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Peter Safran ( Annabelle: Creation, Aquaman ) is producing the film at New Line. The film has release date yet.

The story follows Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking the magic word "SHAZAM" (acronym of six "immortal elders": Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury), can transform himself into an adult superhero with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight, and other abilities.

Shazam, formally known as Captain Marvel, was created by writer Bill Parker and artist C. C. Beck in 1939. The character made his first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (cover-dated Feb. 1940), published by Fawcett Comics. DC comics licensed the Marvel Family ( Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr.) characters from Fawcett in 1972. By 1991, DC had acquired all rights to the characters. In 2011 DC renamed the character "Shazam" when relaunching its comic book properties due to trademark conflicts over another character named "Captain Marvel" owned by Marvel Comics since 1967.

Dwayne Johnson is set to play Shazam's arch nemesis Black Adam, in a standalone film. “Shazam!” will begin filming ahead of the “Flashpoint,” “Batgirl,” directed by Joss Whedon, and Gavin O’Connor's “Suicide Squad” 2.
