Toys Company Accused Of Spying On Kids

Over 18 consumer watchdog groups have filled complaints with the US' Federal Trade Commission and the European Union alleging that some of Genesis Toys and Nuance Communications collect children voices of without permission.

The organizations says Genesis Toys ' i-Que and My Friend Cayla collect kids voices without permission and sends it to Nuance, which could be used in databases that Nuance sells to police and intelligence agencies.

Genesis Toys and Nuance Communications “unfairly and deceptively collect, use, and disclose audio files of children’s voices without providing adequate notice or obtaining verified parental consent,” in violation of COPPA and other laws.

The organizations also raised concern over Genesis toys' Bluetooth devices connecting to the toys, raising the threat of "predatory stalking and physical danger."
