Nintendo Planning A The Legend of Zelda Smartphone Game.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo is planning on turning The Legend of Zelda into a Smartphone Game. A source Allegedly told The Wall Street Journal that Nintendo plans to release a The Legend of Zelda game for smartphones late 2017.

The news comes after Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima revealed last month that the company plans to release approximately five new smartphone games in the financial year ending March 2018.

The original The Legend of Zelda was released in 1986. The video game series was created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. An animated TV series adaptation of the video games aired in 1989. As of 2016, the franchises has sold over 75 million copies.

Latest addition of the franchise The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, was revealed for Nintendo Switch and Wii U in March 2017. Upon its release, Breath of the Wild was announced as the fastest-selling Nintendo launch title of all time and the fastest-selling Legend of Zelda game ever.

Nintendo and DeNA declined to comment for The Wall Street Journal's story.

Nintendo launched its first smartphone game, Miitomo, in March 2016. Super Mario Run launched for iOS on December 15 and for Android devices in March, and Fire Emblem Heroes launched on February 2.
