Hal Jordan's Story Retold In Dc Comics' Green Lantern: Earth One.

DC Comics will retell Hal Jordan's Green Lantern story in the Green Lantern: Earth One series slated for March 20, 2018. The new book Hal is an astronaut for Ferris Galactic until he discovers one of the rings of the Green Lantern Corps, and have to rebuild the group after they been murdered by the Manhunters. The new comic book will be by cartoonist Gabriel Hardman, co-writer Corinna Bechko, and artist Jordan Boyd.

“Approaching this as an Earth One story gives us the opportunity to go back to the core concept of Green Lantern and interpret it through the lens of a modern, grounded sci-fi story while still being true to the Silver Age roots of Hal Jordan,” said Hardman. “Having storyboarded Interstellar, this is an approach I’m comfortable with and have wanted to explore in comics. Realistic sci-fi is only the beginning of this story; we have something much more epic in store.”

Green Lantern: Earth One will be exploring Hal's piloting skills as well as his science background.

“Hal Jordan is a smart, capable person with a space and science background who has a lot of untapped potential even before he finds the ring,” Bechko said. “That means he’s going to approach everything the ring does from the perspective of a scientist, but he’s going to employ it for action and adventure. The result for us as writers is the opportunity to fully embrace the science fiction aspects of the story in a way that would be impossible with a lot of other characters.”

In the original comic book Hal Jordan was a United States Air Force pilot, whose superpower were given to him by a dying alien named Abin Sur, member of the Green Lantern Corps, after he crash-landed his starship in the Californian desert. The fictional superhero was created in 1959 by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane, and first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959). Hal Jordan is a reinvention of a previous character called Green Lantern that had appeared in 1940.

Hal Jordan's Green Lantern is one of the founding members of the Justice League of America, along with the Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
